If you enjoy a journey by bike, scooter, or car, then drive around Samosir Island. It’s a stunning route that takes you past the most beautiful spots on Samosir. This trip requires some preparation. In this blog, you’ll find everything you need to know!
Tip 1: Start early
The route is about 130 kilometers long. But because you’ll pass by so many beautiful places along the way, you’ll often stop. Think of untouched rice fields, lake views, and authentic villages. At Hotel Barbara, we can tell you all about it! There are also many cafes and restaurants along the way. Our tip is therefore to start early in the morning. An added advantage is that it’s usually dry in the morning and afternoon on Samosir.

Tip 2: Leave the main road occasionally
The ring road of Samosir takes you around the island. But many beautiful sights and nice restaurants are located on the side roads. Often these are indicated by signs. Getting lost on Samosir is difficult. So, occasionally leave the main road!

Tip 3: Bring drinks (and snacks)
A trip around Samosir takes you past stunning, untouched places. Here you’ll see few tourists and lots of nature and beautiful rice fields. But this also means that there are few facilities along parts of the route. Like restaurants, shops, ATMs, and gas stations. So, be well prepared. Tip 4: Cyclists, get ready to climb!
The road around the island is hilly. Plus, there’s a mountain with about 600 meters in altitude. In total, there are about 2000 meters in altitude. In other words: get ready to climb. Especially if you want to cycle around the island, it’s good to know this.
